Someone just told me that you are a CNA after you complete your first semester of nursing school . . . she is a RN but I had never heard this before. Is it true?

Where I live after you finish Fundamentals you can test to be a CNA. You will need to get a hold of your Dept. of Professional Regulations and they can tell you if and how you can do it. Also, ask your nursing instructor or head of your program. Hope that helps some.

It is where I live. I did it and it was great experience. I was called a tech instead of a CNA, but the work was the same. I didn't have to do anything other than put down I had finished my first semester on my application. At least in this area, nursing students get first consideration for these jobs because they assume they'll stay and work as nurses for them in a couple of years :).
