I am from NY too. Did you get the NY nursing home nurse aide certification handbook? It lists what's going to be on the test in there. Here is a rundown:
The test is going to be 2 hours long. You will be given 60 question for the writen exam. Not bad since you have two hours to do it. The clinical skills list is as follows:
1. Ambulation 11. Pulse and Respirations
2.Bedpan 12. Measure and Record Weight
3. Catheter Care 13. Brush Teeth
4. Change an occupied bed 14. Dentures
5. Change of position 15.Partial Bed Bath
6. Dressing 16. Perineal Care (Female)
7. Feeding 17. Range of Motion( Lower Extremities)
8. Foot Care 18. ROM (Upper Extremities)
9. Hair and Nail Care 19. Transfer
10. Measure and Record Urinary 20. Waist Restraint
Drainage Bag
You will be given 5 skills to do. Three from the list and Handwashing and Indirect Care. You will have the time you need to do them. If you make a mistake they will give you a chance to recognize it and redo it. But once you say that your done, you cannot redo the mistake. A RN will be watching over you as you do the skills. Its really not that hard. Just make sure you do the skills in the exact steps that are given to you. And dont forget to do important critical things like, washing hands, pulling the curtain, checking the ID, raising the bed for good body mechanics and putting up the bed rail for patient safety, lowering the bed when leaving patient, dont leave the bedside with the bed raised and the bed rail not up, giving the person the signal light when leaving, etc.
Dont worry too much just know the steps. Im having my exam on the 17th of july. Hope you do well and good luck.
