Does anyone know of any nursing homes in San Diego CA that will train for CNA?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi my name is Debra. I am looking for a nursing home or other medical facility that will provide on the job training for CNA. I live in North County and am very close to Oceanside. I would prefer not to have to go to down town San Diego as the traffic would drive me crazy not to mention the time crunch being stuck on the freeway. The only place I have found so far is a home caregiver job which will train but I would have to use my vehicle to transport my clients, it is a jeep and not very senior friendly so that is not an option. I can go to the CC but they require me to take at least one English class first before I can enter the program and do not want to wait that long before I can start working. The ROP program down here is my other option but will have to wait to get into it. If anyone knows of any on the job training here I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much. This is an awesome site, I have learned more here than talking to all the schools and counselors on the west coast.

Hi Debra,

About 1 1/2 years ago, I visited Pt. Loma Convalescent, which has a two month CNA training program. If I remember correctly, they do pay a small stipend during the training program, then you take the test, and then you can stay on at Pt. Loma (with increased pay) or you are free to leave and find a job elsewhere.

My memory is a little fuzzy about this program, so don't quote me on it. But if you're intested, the contact info is here:

Point Loma Convalescent Hospital

I know Pt Loma is quite a ways from Oceanside, but they are part of a network - maybe a facility closer to you has a similar program.

I think being paid for CNA on-the-job training is pretty rare. Who knows though - you might find something that's a fit for you.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for the information. I will check into it.

Debra

You should check with convalesant or assisted living facilities.alot of them have classes that the facilities teachs on the job. you work as a Nursing Assistant until you finish training and go thru certification exam. It's on the job training so you get paided to learn and work

Point loma no longer offers cna training.
