Cna with an interview at an hospital and need some insight on interview questions/tes

Published

Hi all, I've been a Cna for 2 years now and have worked in a group home for a little over a year now. My main goal has always been to work as a cna in a hospital. I got a call last week that south suburban hospital in Hazel Crest, il was interested and they gave me 2 quick phone interviews and asked me to come in on Friday. I'm so nervous considering the fact that I had an interview for a big hospital some months back and made it to the third interview to only be rejected over a month later because I called to find out. I had actually thought I did well. I'm in school and interested in becoming a nurse. I want this job badly and don't want it to turn out like my last interview. Please any advice from someone who has had an interview at this particular hospital as a cna or at any other Advocate hospital. I also did a personality assessment,Does that mean I won't have to take a skills test? I want to be prepared this time any advice would be appreciated. :)

Hello! I just graduated recently and I had an interview at a hospital recently as well. The hospital I interviewed for actually had human resources come in and they offered us opportunities to work at their hospital so my case is a BIT different than yours!

But when I had my interview I was just asked about my experience, where I see myself in 5 years, how I handle stress, and I was given quite a bit of space in between questions to just talk about myself, my skills, and to express myself in a way that the nurse manager got a feel for my personality, etc and I feel like that the moments where I just expressed my passion for the health field and what I personally do to ensure I am the most efficient CNA really was the most impressionable part of my interview. Granted, the nurse manager was very easy going and seemed to prefer me to just generally talk then to ask specific questions.

I'd really just reflect on your strengths and your weaknesses (and what you're doing to improve them!), what you bring to the table, how you are an effective team member and an asset to the hospital.

This PDF from "mycnajobs.com" was also SUPER helpful for me so I highly advise you read through it, it has questions and tips that are beneficial: http://www.mycnajobs.com/templates/capture/static/pdf/MyCNAJobs_Caregiver_Interview_Guide.pdf

I'd also research the hospital in general (it's community efforts, achievements//awards, etc) and then research specifically about the floor your interviewing for. It doesn't hurt to know because they could ask "what do you know about our hospital?" so it's good to have an understanding of their mission statement and long term goals and you could always tie in your knowledge about the hospital to your responses to questions and it could really distinguish you from others because it shows you're serious and did your homework!

I also dressed very professionally, had 2 copies of my resume with a reference list and any written references I had ( I had 2 so I hadone for the recruiter and one for the nurse manager. This is optional but I like to do this because I think it shows effort and can refresh the recruiter&manager about who you are), and I brought my CNA certification, highschool & college diploma/basic documents, etc. Just be prepared, confident, and professional and you should succeed!

Also, practicing with a friend & family member helped me. It's good to verbalize your ideas and kind of prepare the general structure of your responses to questions.
