CNA Help!!!

Hi,

I am having a hard time deciding what I really want to do. I just received a call asking me to come in to take a drug test and other things to get started working at a close Rehab-nursing home. They are going to train me as a CNA and work for them for 7 dollars and hour. I don't mind since I am working part time at my current job Tuesdays- Friday. I am also volunteering at a hospice care but on do that on Mondays and I don't have a committment.

I am going to school full-time, have a family including a 7month old and 4 year old. My biggest problem is working the weekends and working 24 hours as a CNA. I have a hard time now doing the above but would love to stick it out until April of next year when I finish college. Could anyone give any advice or tips on CNA and or time management as working as a CNA on the weekends.

I would really appreciate and Thank you.:heartbeat

Huh? So... Monday you volunteer, Tuesday-Friday you work at some other job, you go to school full time AND you have young children? And right now you don't do anything on Saturday and Sunday but you're planning on working 12-hour shifts as a CNA?

That's a recipe for burnout, and it sounds like you know it. Something needs to go. Why are you trying to take all that on? I would take a good look at your reasons for everything and your financial situation and decide what to prioritize. How much does your current part time job pay and how do you feel about it?

Very tough decision you have. Do you make enough at your part time job to meet your financial responsibilities? If so, skip the CNA work. Spend your free time doing your school work, and spending time with your kids. I guess you could go per diem if that's offered, and work maybe some Mondays and weekends.

I'm not sure where you live but $7 per hour? I'm not sure I would do CNA work for that much.

Hi fuzzy wuzzy,

My current job is the most highest pay around 11 dollars and hour and I wouldn't want to leave that job until I find another good paying job. I am really starting to dislike my current position but hey I been there 5 years. I really want my CNA and really wanting to work my way into a hospital or patient care settings. I have applied to many jobs but only one call back. I have no experiences other than what I have learned in high school and that been around 6 years ago. I see that a CNA at a nursing home is my only bet to really get hands on. I'm really going to make a schedule out to put my plans in action. Yes I will have to work hard or let something go. I have until monday so I am going to sleep hard on it. I heard that being a CNA is hard work but most jobs at times can be hard. I have applied for a patient transporter in a hospital but I guess I'm going to call about that Monday. I am hoping someone else call me before I make it final. Thanks for you advice.

Hi,

I know right, its 7.25 an hour. I think I might just stick to my old schedule and continue to apply for other jobs until something else comes to me. The CNA positions is only 2 to 3 weekends out of a month but still was thinking. Thank you Maybe I will try harder and visit companies in my area plus I have until April of 2012 to have my Associates degree in Health Care .
