CNA Final Exams?

Published

I'm a junior in high school right now and I'm taking the CNA class for our local community college in Utah. I'm taking my written and skills exams on May 19th and May 31st and I'm SO nervous. I honestly didn't think I'd be so stressed. I'm also working as a NA at an assisted living memory care unit and My teacher told me that my employer would pay for my exams but my employer says otherwise. Then there's the test days/weeks. The first week is the 19th, I'm taking my written exam, the 20th is my boyfriends birthday, and the 21st is my dance competition. Then the 31st is my skills exam and I am such a scatter brain I'm so scared I'm going to fail. I cannot fail because nursing/CNA is my passion and I want to become a nurse/anything in nursing/medical feild. I've made CNA my life. My entire life revolves around my residents. I'm either at home, school, clinicals or at my facility. I'm such a scatter brain and don't know what to do.

Chill you will do fine it's super easy. The skills portion is the only part to be nervous on. I already finished up my first year in nursing school so I didn't have to take the class and just took the exam. An experienced NA like you will have no problem. I only studied the night before and I looked up a bunch of videos on the skills portion on YouTube since I had never practiced them in class or anything. Then I just acted out the pretend steps to get the muscle memory of what to do in my head. Just breath and go slow and remember not to dump the fake pee in the sink and to count when you are washing your hands! I was nervous too but it was a piece of cake compared to the NCLEX haha ;)

I wouldn't worry about the written portion, just the skills. Even though you work as an NA you should take some time to practice the skills set because as you know, what is expected on the test can be very different from what you practice in the nursing home. If you can, try and do a mock skill test. I had a friend act as a patient and I set up all my supplies as best as I could. She would have the test book and let me know what steps I missed. Doing a mock skill test will also help you with your time, I had two water skills on my test and boy was I glad I practiced. 25 min never went by so fast!
