About how many people are in each clinical group? My friend and I got accepted into nursing school and we want to be in the same clinical group, and want to know on average how.many people are in each one

It depends. Ours are anywhere from 8-10.

Specializes in PICU, CICU.

Mine has about 8 per clinical site

8 and we don't get to choose what hospital or who we are with

7-8, our total cohort is 36 (our school usually has 40).

You most likely won't get to choose who is in your group. But don't worry, you'll make new friends :)

My clinical group last semester was 7. This semester, I believe, is 9. We can choose our clinical day, but we can't choose our clinical group. Honestly I kind of like that as it's made me branch out and get to know some other students. We're not bffs or anything, but I'm liking the people that I'm slowly getting to know.

It depends on the school. My class was split into two groups of 6-7 each. We didn't get to choose which group we were in.

Ours is about 7. We share the floor with another group that we do our lab time with after clinical. We are basically a group of 14 but have our own clinical instructor. It's kind of nice having the help of the other students since we basically take every bed on the floor.

You will have no control on what group you are in and if you get to be in a group with your friend and it will more than likely change each semester/quarter. Ours was set up with 7-8 per group each quarter and we changed instructors and who was in our group. There was one instructor in charge of assigning the groups for the quarter. The one time I put in a request to change groups was ONLY granted because she had put me with the same clinical instructor and same floor as the previous two quarters (she didn't realize that).

You usually don't get to choose your group. The most choice I've seen, over the years in a few different nursing programs, was getting to submit to the clinical coordinator your preferred sites for clinical (in "first, second, third" ranked order) and the faculty would attempt to accommodate the requests as much as possible, but nothing was guaranteed.

Specializes in psych.

My first term we had 11 in my group. After that is has been between 7-9 people. Depends on your school and the size of the cohort.

Specializes in Psychiatry, Community, Nurse Manager, hospice.

We have 8 in each group, with an occasional group of 7 or 9.

We pick our top 2 choices for clinical, then are assigned. We all got either our first or second choice.

In this way, you have some influence over who is in your group, but not total control.
