Anyone else have a nice long walk to get to their clinicals?? Here we have to walk 6 blocks in full uniform/lab coat there and back. The hospital here does not want us parking in the original parking lot nor the employee parking lot so we are having to park at a donut shop about 6 blocks up, in a not so nice neighborhood through the rain/sleet and snow and still manage to be there on time at 6:45 clean and presentable! I'm not saying it isn't possible but wow! lol Was just curious if anyone else had to do the long walk to and from clinicals.

Wow- that stinks. Thankfully, the one area hospital I don't have to do clinicals at is the one with lousy parking. I can't believe you aren't even allowed to park in the employee lot- you will be doing work, after all!
Curious: how does the donut shop feel about you all parking there?

Pack your scrubs in a bag and change once you get there. I would do this with my EMT clinicals when I had a ridiculous walk to do in either the summer.
I believe the donut shop is no longer in service so to speak. This is used for not only our clinicals but all clinicals in area both colleges, and there is only 45 spots at the donut shop the other is another block back for us to park. I hope I get there in time! LOL As for the scrubs I know we have to at least have our lab coat on but I am pretty sure we have to be wearing our scrubs as well. Will have to look more into the getting "dressed" once there lol.

That stinks!
We're lucky and get to park in the garage (though we have to be on the 7th or 8th floor)...and there's an indoor bridge from the 6th floor to the hospital :)

I used to commute to the clinical site. I got out of lecture (at school) at 1pm and I had to be at the clinical site at 2pm. This site was 45 minutes away from school located in a downtown location--zero off-street parking. I would speed to clinical, park at a large parking garage (the hospital was set by a nearby stadium) and pay $21.00 EVERY time I had to go to clinical. I would walk across 3 lanes of traffic and 3 blocks (in the snow) just to get there! Sometimes I carpooled with the other girls and we would split the parking garage fee. Sometimes when we got out of clinical, we would sit in traffic wrapped around the hospital for an hour because a professional basketball game would be done and everyone parked in the same parking garage, or an ice skating show would just be letting out...Everytime I went to clinical, I would just count down the days until the rotation ended!

At a majority of my clinical sites, we would have to park at a satellite parking lot and catch the shuttle.

I had to drive 70 miles to go to my clinicals on the first semester, had to be there at 6.30AM (mind you I was at work until midnight the night before) Got home at 1AM sleep until 4 AM, leave home at 445AM to get there on time... I used to sneak in and get a visitor parking spot (SORRY I know I shouldn't).
on the semesters after I used to park in the furthest of 3 parking garages, and it would take me 15 minutes just to get in the hospital, and then another 15 to get to my unit, had to be at the unit getting report at 6.30!
I guess we all had some sort of a parking battle

wow, i feel really lucky. we have to park in the employee parking which is a decent ways away, but the employee shuttle circles around constantly picking up people and take them to the hospital and taking people from the hospital back to the parking lot

I feel really lucky too. We park in the employee parking lot, and the walk takes only a couple of minutes. Sounds like some of you have a frustrating time with parking.

Oh yeah...Well when I was a nursing student I had to walk three miles in a blizzard and up-hill BOTH ways to get to my clinicals. Did I tell you I was barefoot too?!
