Last exam was Monday, except for a Kaplan diagnostic I have to take on my own time by Friday (no big deal). Graduating with honors (a personal goal I set for myself), and getting pinned tonight! Graduation Saturday - not attending graduation though because I've personally been through a couple.
My wife sacrificed a lot for this to happen, and truly am grateful for her support in pursuing this second career. Today I am not going to worry about anything, just a time to spend with friends, reflect on the past five years, and bask in the success of graduating with a BSN.
This is a career I never thought I would be pursuing. When the economy was bad in 2009/2010, I decided to get a medical assistant diploma, and after I finished the program I said to my wife I don't want to do this - I would rather be involved in patient care and be a patient advocate at the bedside. Technical skills and tasks can be taught, but a spirit of compassion, kindness, empathy and a strong work ethic are personality traits that have been instilled in me since I was a child.
Today is a day of celebration. Tomorrow is the reality that the journey into the world of Nursing has just begun.
