Good question. The truth is many NP's actually practice outside of their intended training (i.e., FNP's working in specialty practice). If you look at ANCC and AANP's renewal guidelines, all they require is 1000 hours of clinical practice related to the population foci. You certainly meet the age span of your FNP training in the jobs you had so I don't see an issue there. If you can prove that at least 1000 hours in your job is spent addressing the primary care needs of your patients, I think you are good to go without question. When you renew, you only answer this requirement with a yes or a no. No further explanation is asked.

I am an FNP certified by AANP. I worked 2 1/2 years in a pediatric office and now have opportunity to work geriatric/palliative care. Will two separate jobs count toward the 1000 hour requirement for FNP scope? And is it okay if not in a family practice setting? I have read and re-read the AANP guidelines and find them to be very nebulous. Any advice so appreciated. Also my first post so hope I did okay.
