Civillian nursing available on bases overseas?

Hi, I am prior Navy and my husband is still enlisted. He's a Master at Arms, so there is a big chance that we will be going overseas in the next few years. My question is, does anyone know if the Navy or other armed forces hire civillian nurses to work on the bases overseas? My biggest fear is becoming an Rn and then not being able to work in the field because of being overseas. Any information you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'd be interested to learn what you find out. It is highly likely that before my hubby retires we will be stationed in Okie, and the naval hospital there has continuous recruitment listings for RNs. Looks great on paper, but I have heard rumours that actually getting the job is hard, especially w/o prior civil service.

I, like you, don't want to go through heck and back just to move somewhere for 4 years where I can't use what I have learned (and consequently, if I am still somewhat a new grad, lose technical skills).

When I was in Germany at Army clinics during '93-'98 RNs had to volunteer at our facilities for at least a year until a job opened. The RN with the most volunteer time usually got the job.
