Hi, I'm working with a heatlhcare recruiter, but I would like some first hand information. I'm a single mom of three, I've been a nusre for 2 years. At first I thought my weekends woule be working in a military hospital. This may not be the case, can any deployed nurses, provide some needed information on real life Nurse Corp.
Thank you

Hello,
I'm not yet actually IN the Army Nurse Corps YET... However I am due to have my packet before the Board for review for Commissioning in December..I just went to MEPS This past Monday, and passed, and I went down to Indy. This past Sunday, and met my Unit, Bravo Company
801st. CSH. I found out that my Bravo unit does NOT spend our weekends working in hospitals. Rather, we do the annual Army physicals, we process in new Medical supplies, drill PT and various other drills both in the Field, such as artillery qualification, and set up a mobile CSH. Now...I was also informed, that IF I want to, I can go to our Alpha Company in Chicago, and there, They do work in the Local Hospitals during drill weekends. So, It depends on your area that your Unit is, and what hospitals participate with the US Army Reserve Companies. Now, when I go active in 2 years after completing my BSN, I can and will work in a Military hospital. Your AMEDD recruiter will know information in relationship to your question. I recommend that you request a visit to your Unit, that way you can meet and greet, become familiarized with the unit, and their ops, and ask all the questions you can directly from actual Nurses and Dr.s' all ready drilling.
Also, Heads up.. You stated that you're a single mother of 3. The Army has stipulations on single parents joining the Army, AR 601-210 tells about this, and you should definitely discuss that issue with your AMEDD recruiter! I know that for the enlisted, they require that single parents sign custody of thier dependent children to someone else, such as a family member. I do not know if this is also required of Direct Commissioned Officers.
Hope this is of SOME assistance!! Good Luck to you!!
