I am a fairly new nurse and my nurse manager has put me in charge a couple of different times. Well, I have this one nurse who has been at the hospital longer than me (but is not the brightest light bulb in the stack)
She proceeds to tell me how to do my job, makes out assignment before i can even get around to it---etc.... She acts like it makes her mad that i was put in charger before her-------she has never been in charge----(not exactly the strongest nurse)
I did not ask to be put in charge---it just happened--but it makes it hard to do my job with all her bossy things she does. What should I do?

rnangl .....if you know in advance that you are going to be charge...then come in a lil early....quickly do the schedule assignment first. then ...there is no reason for her to hang out...she can get to work. i dont know...some people are so strange.she may feel intimidated by you...when in charge be sure to always make it a point to "see the good work" that each nurse does.....including this and to tell them what a good job they have done.nurses are so undervalued....and just taking the time to say "thanks...good job...." goes a long way and will lead to your sucess ....and maybe make this nurse feel a lil less uncomfortable.hope this helps....and good luck!
