I live in Orange County, just starting taking prerequisites courses to get into an ADN program.
Today, I just found out about these breaking news (well, at least to me) on Golden West college and Santa Ana college websites:
Beginning the application period of Fall 2010, GWC School of Nursing will be moving to a once a year application period. Updates to follow.
http://www.goldenwestcollege.edu/nursing/
New applications will not be accepted for the first semester entry list after July, 2009, due to a transition in the admission mechanism.
http://www.sac.edu/faculty_staff/academic_progs/departments/nursing/waitlist_info.htm
So I understand SAC won't accept application anymore and GWC will only accept application once a year! It's kinda frustating. Does anyone know anything about these changes, please?

Santa Ana WILL be accepting applications, only not for their 600+ Wait List. The list is going out the window and, like the other local J.C.'s, SAC is switching to accepting applications every semester and taking the students with the highest number of points (GPA, pre-requisite grades, classes completed, etc.).
thank you. that is so helpful.

are you sure that santa ana will still be accepting applications? i read on another thread that they wont be until the wait list is completely depleted and that is expected to take 3 or more years (yikes!). i just registered to be a student at SAC and plan to start taking my prereqs in the fall. i want to go to SAC, but i'll try to find another school if what i heard is true. this is all so discouraging...

I know that at GWC - there were close to 725 applications this semester, and honestly, that's too much for any school to handle. Each semester the number goes up and there's very few people to process this. Several campuses only have applications available once a year.
I know for some students it makes it easier to plan ahead and know when they'll be granted admission rather than continually reapplying each term. Just plan ahead so that your prereqs are done prior to the application deadlines, and take remaining requirements while your waiting.
