Chances of getting into FAU FNP Program

Published

Hey folks,

My S/O is looking at nursing schools' FNP programs and Florida Atlantic University/FAU is the closest in-person program to us (we're in Broward county, South Florida). She applied for the Fall 2021 MSN-FNP program.

Looking at some sites online, FAU has a really low acceptance rate of 25-30%, so I'm wondering what you guys think my S/O's chances are. Some background on her:

BSN Graduated from a CCNE-accredited 4-year state college with a 3.86 GPA (I think like 3.88 Nursing GPA)

2 years LPN Home health

1 year as LPN (eventually RN) nursing at a LTC facility

1.5 years Med/Surg at a pretty reputable, though smaller health system (she won two individual Daisy awards and one team Daisy award here)

1 year Neuro-Trauma ICU RN

8 months Labor/Delivery and Mother-Baby RN

About half a year at an outpatient cardio clinic (her current job)

Her letter of reference for the program is from the director of the nursing program at her state college. The same program director actually asked my S/O's permission to use one of her papers in the school's CCNE re-accreditation/renewal application.

What do you guys think of her chances at FAU or other programs?

Is it more understandable in healthcare to kind of bounce around between roles like she did? She never changed jobs due to job performance and she'd gladly provide all her prior supervisors as contacts.

Is her not being a FAU alum, and attending a 4yr state college a deal-breaker? I tried looking on LinkedIn at the backgrounds of former FAU students to see if attending a state school/non-FAU programs is a deal-breaker, but there's not a lot of people on LinkedIn to give me an idea.

Thank you for any insight in advance. She really has her heart set on FAU and I want to start mitigating ASAP if they're likely going to turn her down.
