Chaffey College vs. Concorde Career College-SB

Published

I am currently attending Chaffey College, trying to get my pre-reqs for the LVN program. However, it's been a while since i have attended any type of college and my track record is "not the best". I attended college when I was much younger and unfortunately did not do well. So my overall GPA will not be the best. I'm worried I will NOT be accepted to the LVN program at Chaffey. Therefore, I am interested in attending Concorde Career College in San Bernardino. The big set back is the price!! It's going to cost me $29k to attend their LVN program. Whereas Chaffey is a small fraction of the price. Should I risk not getting accepted into Chaffey's program or pay the big bucks to get into Concorde??? I have NO idea what I should do. Any advice would help !

Hi there! After a whole lot of lurking, I finally registered just to respond to you. :)

I haven't been too long at college at yet, but I can say that I bombed my first semester and a few other classes as well. But I still got my CNA at Chaffey, did all my pre-reqs, and will be starting the LVN program there on August 25.

They also have what they call "academic forgiveness" that can help with your GPA. LVN acceptance isn't based on GPA anyhow--they sort through the apps by what pre-reqs are done first. Those who have them all completed and pharmacology too (it claims it's optional, but it looks good) go into the first pile. Those without pharm but who have everything else go into the next pile. And so on.

At this point it is a raffle through each pile until all the spots are claimed. They told us at orientation that every spot for our class was filled with people who had everything done, including pharmacology.

Just chip away at the pre-reqs and go ahead and apply. It can't hurt to try, and it should save a LOT of money. Good luck!

Hello, I too, am attending Chaffey. This fall, I am enrolled in Bio 424, Pharm, and Math 401. Will this be enough to get into the Spring 09 class or will I need to take additional courses to ensure a spot into the LVN program???
