Loans for CRNA school

I need help! I just found out that I have been accepted to a program to start in January. For all of the SRNA's out there.....are there scholarships, grants, etc. available to new students? (I received my letter yesterday, so I haven't spoken to anyone at the school about financial aid, yet) I realize that I will have to get loans, loans, and more loans. I have a wife and child and borrowed money will be supporting us for 28 months. How much does a student typically borrow in a year if you don't mind me asking? Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Brenna's Dad,

You might want to double-check with the graduate financial aid office. I started school Fall semester of 2002. For each of the three semesters I have attended, I was disbursed $9,250. Here is a direct quote from our graduate student financial award brochure:

"You are eligible to borrow up to $18,500 every two semesters. Federal law requires that all loans be disbursed in at least two equal installments during the academic loan period. For the academic year loans, one disbursement is made each semester. "

Hope the Gonzaga folks can help you out...

My experience has been the same as Athlein. I start school in Sept. and just found out that you can apply for additional Federal loans (in excess of the 18,500 two semester max) to cover the summer semester. Of course as stated above "don Corleone" gets his first! By the way thanks SCHMEGGA, I have been looking for a credit-based loan that defers the principle and interest but until now have been unsuccsesful!

The way the 18, 500/yr works for most CRNA programs is based on 2 semesters because we are in school for a full year (3 SEM), so the summer is an additional disbursement.

I also used the Bankone loan, had a cosigner b/c of lousy credit, and the money came without delay...much different than staffords etc. I don't know about you, but avoiding the financial aid office with the Bankone loan was worth it's weight in GOLD. They can be like molasses in winter when the money is needed...

Anytime! Trust me this is a fantastic way to go.

To qualify for supplemental loans have most of you had to get a co-signer? I just spoke with Bank One about their education loan and because I would not be employed during school, I would need a co-signer.
