We will soon be training/implementing GE's Centricity EMR. I am interested in workflow assessment tools and recommendations, possible areas for site visits and overall suggestions. We have currently (and continue to) implement Centricity Group Management (formerly IDX Groupcast). Any words of wisdom are appreciated.

I was involved with the implementation of the centricity system back when it was owned by medicalogic. Our clinic went live in March of 2000. The most important thing you can do is to start now in your preparations. Make sure your current med lists and problem lists are accurate and up to date. Start abstracting information on patients as you see them. Create a form including meds, problems, allergies, surgical hx, family hx, immunizations etc and start abstracting. Store this information and before going live make every effort possible to get that information in the Centricity database (pre-loading). - We didn't use any special workflow tools, other than sitting down and breaking down each thing we did and writing it down in order. This may seem cumbersome, but it is essential in developing workflow redesign skills. Implementation takes a lot of work and is somewhat painful for many months after go-live, but it is worth it to pay it forward. The better you lay your foundation the stronger your building will be. - Good luck!
Thanks for the advice. Could I perhaps contact you in a professional/resource manner in the near future? You may respond via my work e-mail: [email protected]
I'd really appreciate further answers to questions.
Thanks.
