Cellular Bio Tips?

Hello all:

I am finished with chemistry and going into cellular biology for my next class. I have a month before I start and wondered if anyone had any tips on things I should study. I went ahead and purchased the text and study guide, so I can be working on that. Any pointers on things to memorize or pay extra attention to?

I'm doing Bio for health pros, and the book is called Cell and Molecular Principles, so I guess I can help a bit.

So far, these areas have been big focuses in my class:

-Cellular Respiration (Krebs Cycle, Glycolysis,Electron Transport Chain)

-Passive and Active Transport Across Cell Membranes(diffusion, osmosis)

-Structure of Cells and Organelles (nucleus, rough and smooth ER, golgi apparatus, mitochondria, etc)

-Basic Chemistry (conversions, scientific method, elements, atoms, periodic table, hypotonic and hypertonic elements and molecules, chemical bonds, pH scale)

-3 Important Domains and 5 kingdoms of life

-Evolution

-Macromolecules (carbs, lipids, proteins, nucleic acid)

-DNA and RNA

-Microscopes

-Enzymes

-Cell Division (mitosis and meosis)

So far I'm in week 4 of a 5 week Bio class and the only thing we have left to go over is reproduction.

Good luck!

To cull down a bit from the preceding list, I would:

+ Memorize the cellular components and what they do

+ Understand the bilipid membrane and the various inclusions

+ Understand macromolecular structures, especially nucleic acids and proteins

+ Understand the cellular respiration

+ Mitosis and meiosis

That's plenty to work at for the next month.

That looks like my list, minus details....:yeah:

As I said, I just culled your list to things I would focus on if I only had a month.

One thing that neither of us mentioned explicitly: DNA replication, transcription, and translation.
