CCRN- CSC cert

  1. Hi guys,

I work in a trauma ICU. However, I sometimes float to CTICU, and find it interesting to work in this specialty unit. I've been floated for almost two years. However, I never take care for the fresh open heart, instead of post op day 1/day 2.

Today I signed up to take CSC, hopefully, can be transferred to this unit later. I would love to hear your input on how to study and pass the CSC test. thank you

I'd love to hear some updated info on the test as well. I'm scheduled to take mine next week. I've worked in CTICU for a year now, recover cases including CABGs and valves as well as heart/lung transplants. I can't find any really useful information that's been posted within the last year on the exam, so my studying has been done a bit blindly I feel, which is feeding my test anxiety!
I've used AACN's CSC PowerPoint slides, Fast Facts for the Cardiac Surgery Nurse by T. Hodge, and Cardiac Surgery Essentials by Hardin/Kaplow. The Surgery Essentials also has an online question bank that I've been using minimally; there aren't any rationales and I find the questions to be quite challenging.
What's everyone else done to prepare? The lack of prep materials is stressing me out!

I think you should be fine! I took mine and passed with around 1 year of experience in the CVICU. I only read Cardiac Surgery Essentials for Critical Care Nurses. It helped me a little, but I think if you have appropriate experience recovering hearts, you'll be fine.

Thanks so much for the reply!
    Hoping I'll be okay!
