Congratulations on your admission and i wish you good luck. I am a new grad from catonsville. We had Ms. Brennan and Ms. Mcdade for fundamentals and i know they are still teaching the class with help from 1 or 2 instructors. Unfortunately, you do not get to choose who you want for clinicals. They choose for you. They are very good instructors and really know the subject matter. Catonsville is an excellent nursing program.
Thanks for your reply. The spring schedule just came out today and there is only one section for fundamentals taught by Brennan. I am sure there would be another section since I don't think it is possible that all the nursing students can be in one class.
Anyway, please can you tell me what I need to do to succeed? I heard a number of people drop fro the program and I don't want to do that.
I am scared of the clinicals and I wonder if I would be able to learn/master all the things I need to.Please any information you can give will be much appreciated.
Thank you
fundamentals is usually one class and is taught by more than one instructor. i will advise that u attend all lectures and labs. if possible tape your lectures and listen to them. when u read your notes, make sure u understand them cuz the questions are critical thinking ones and u have to understand to apply. they also have a tutor that u can sign up for if u are having problems with classess. i also did a lot of nclex questions for the topics that were taught in class. it is a difficult program but it is also one of the best in maryland. i sometimes went for study groups with some friends to discuss topics that were taught in class. good luck to uu
Thanks for your reply and advice. Please can you tell me the facilities you used for clinicals? I don't drive you see so I can start making arrangements.

I am in my last couple of weeks in the online Catonsville Fundamentals class. I have Ms Brennan and Ms. Harrer - they are both great. Here are my suggestions:
There is a ton of reading assigned from the books - DO NOT READ the entire chapters! Many people in my class did this for the first test and bombed it. Instead there are Reading Objective questions for each topic - answer those quesitons and use the books as a reference to answer them.
From the very begining I put together a study group of 6 people - we divide up the objective quesitons and then one person from the group compiles them and sends them back out to each member. This saves you alot of time!
Do not get behind in the modules - try to work ahead if possible.
There is a seperate study aid called SI (Supplemental Instruction) this is free and really helpful - the lectures are taught by either 2nd year students or nurses who have been through the program. They are offered several times during the week
Clinicals are all over the place - I went to Vantage House in columbia for Long Term Care and Howard Co for Acute Care. But our class was all over Baltimore.
Lab is fun with the dummies - just pay attention to the little details.
Hope this helps

Hi Danielle,
Thanks a lot. This is a whole lot of useful information and I appreciate it. I will surely to utilise the learning aid and take your suggestions on board.
It's nice to know it is doable. I am just concerned about the clinicals because I don't drive. Do you have any say as to where you want to go? Do you have any suggestions for me with regards to carpooling etc?
Speak to the instructors on day one about your driving situation and they may be able to help with placement close to a bus line or suggest a car pool with another classmate. But they cannot promise anything. They did work with me since I live in Frederick - columbia was as close as they could get for me.
My best advice is to be flexible - things change all the time in the program - just go with the flow and it will be much easier.
