Case study...bowel obstruction

Published

I'm a nursing student and need help coming up with some more on my case study...

Here is the info summed up

Okay so patient is a 78 year old female. Was admitted to ED with bowel obstruction. Has previous hx of diverticulitis with colon rupture 5 years ago. Suspeceted cause of obstruction is adhesions...She is on IV and NG suctioning.

At around 11 am you are called to the room by the nurse aid and Mara is throwing up and pale and diaphoretic. What are your actions at this time? Describe in detail what you would do as the RN.

Also another part is she is on IV fluids @ 100mL an hour and you have to replace what NG suctioned out...

You are coming onto day shift to take care of Mara and heard in report that her NG has out 250 cc on night shift. Calculate the rate of the IV for your shift to cover the amount of fluid needed for Mara.

Now it doesn't say how long the shift is or anything so I'm not sure how to figure this one out...any help would be GREATLY appreciated...thanks!
