Question for you all from a Nursing Student1

Specialties Case Management

Published

Hi all! I am currently an LPN and a nursing student. I only have one semester left and then I will be done!! YEH! I am thinking that Case Management is the place for me. In our schooling we just barely dust the surface off when it comes to case management. Do you have any suggestions for me as to how I can learn more about Case Management Nursing? Any books? Did you take a course on this type of nursing? I would love any pointers big and small that you would like to pass onto me!

Thanks so much!

Miss K

Hi Miss K. I took the Case Management certification course and passed, but I didn't have a clue about most of the material that was covered. I had not worked in CM/UM prior to the course. I would highly recommend that if you are working in an acute care hospital, to contact the director of the CM department and explain your interest and ask if it would be possible to work with one of the Case Managers. You might have to do this on your days off and won't get paid for it....lol, but it would give you first hand experience and would also help if your persued certification. I would work as many days as possible to understand the full scope of CM. Hope this is of some help.
