Hi, I'm 19 and want to go to nursing school but am unsure of exactly where to go. I could either go to community college or a University. I've heard so many different things about which is the best route. I just found out about Cascadia Community College pre-nursing degree. From my understanding it's a transfer degree that after you finish you can transfer to a university for your BSN, has anyone ever done this and what are the opinions on it? Is it a good idea to go there?

Hi Ashley!
I work for Cascadia Community College, and can tell you a little about the pre-nursing program. Yes, you can get your two years of prerequisites and then transfer into a four-year university for your BSN. You do have to make sure that the university you transfer to is not just a RN to BSN. For instance, several of the universities I know students have transferred to from Cascadia are UW Seattle and Northwest University. The difference in the RN and Pre-nursing degree are the clinicals; Cascadia does not offer clinicals, which is why it is not an RN degree. If you are wanting to attend UW Bothell for your BSN, you would need to have received an RN prior to applying for their program. Several other community colleges have the RN degree, so make sure to go to Community and Technical Colleges of Washington to learn which ones. I hope this information helps, but if you have more questions, please feel free to email me - [email protected].
