Car germs

Hi all

I am anxious about wearing my uniform post shift in the car on the way home. I worry that germs will be transmitted to my car and when I drive in my car when I am not working my clothes get germ infested. What do you think or what would you do? Thank you

Change in the locker/bath room before you leave work. Problem solved. I drove home in my grubby scrubs every day & am alive to tell the tale, as are my husband and children.

Stop worrying.

We're actually probably safer in the hospital environment than most other places--standard precautions with scrub in/scrub out, special precautions for more resistant bugs, and housekeeping staff that uses bleach/institutional strength cleaning products, and UV lights.

Honestly, I worry more about grocery store carts, the keypad on card readers, and paper money (paper money especially....just think about all the places it's been!). :)

Including some places you would not think about...or at least prefer not to think about. :yuck:

I went to National Big Box Store the other day (a rare occurrence) and the first thing I touched (cart handle) was slimy so I left. I prefer the germy-ness I encounter to be less obvious so I can pretend it doesn't exist if I want to. I refuse to even think about paper money. lol

Thanks for all your replies. I need to stop worrying and get on with life. I just worry about passing germs into my kids.

As has already been said, I would worry a heck of a lot more about the germs they encounter at school, at a friend's house, on a trip to the grocery store, when taking their shoes off at the end of the day, etc.

Don't make yourself crazy over it, and teach them good hand hygiene.

Since 1977, I've been driving home from work in my scrubs (or my white polyester nursing uniform), and I'm alive and healthy. This isn't something to be worried about.

Ditto - also 1977!

Just saw a report on the news that the germiest place in an airport is the self-check in kiosk- it was a crazy amount worse than the toilets! Think of all the different kiosks and stuff we touch- gas station, atm, self checkout at target or the grocery store, etc.

The only time I'd worry about getting my car dirty is if stuff (poop, pee, blood, urine, vomit, pus, etc.) got on my uniform and in that case I'd be cleaning myself up and putting on something fresh (which I've done before).

Someone recently asked if I get sick more as a nurse than I did before becoming one. I'm actually sick less and I told them it's because I'm so conscious of hand hygiene (and went into my little spiel about how it's the best way of breaking the chain of infection).

Lol I hate to admit it but there have been times I've been exhausted and plopped on the couch in my scrubs. Hubby, kids and furbabies are unscathed ;)
