Can't find a job, any ideas for help?

Published

I graduated may 2008, passed by boards last december..and have been looking for a job since. Now I'm basically in the same category as "new grads" because i didn't take my boards till the winter after i graduated. (not knowing the economy would be as bad as it is)

Now like everyone else i cannot find a job!! i live in the nj/nyc area. any ideas of what hospitals will take new grads? it seems everywhere requires experience. i've been on two interviews that went well but there are no jobs at the moment. it's really getting upsetting, hospitals need to allow for new graduates, otherwise when they finally do hire us we will have be out of practice for too long and orientation will not come as easy. anyone have any ideas as to where to apply?? or how to find RN jobs in doctor's offices?..and do they even hire new nurses? i can't find any, and i've tried just about every hospital in nj that is within a reasonable commute.

any help or encouragement would be appreciated :)

I hear you GLORN... there are a lot of new grads on this site with similar experiences. Have you considered relocating? Even if it were for a year or so to gain the experience you need to land a job where you live... I know a couple of hospitals in my area (upstate NY, albany area) that are hiring new grads for select positions. Have a look at the stickie at the top of the "first year's" page, the one entitled "Any hospitals hiring, anywhere?" to give you an idea of where new grads are getting hired (it's generally not around the big cities, unfortunately). Good luck, and keep us posted!

i thought about it but right now i'm still thinking about staying in the area.....but who knows if time keeps passing i may just have to. i'll check that out, thanks for the advice :)
