Canadian RN wanting to relocate to Tucson, AZ

Hi there,

I am a Canadian educated and licensed RN in BC hoping to move to Tucson AZ because my bf lives there. I am in the process of applying for a license to AZ and awaiting to take the NCLEX. Im expecting this to come through in a couple of months if all my paper work is correct and I pass the NCLEX. The thing I'm concerned about is the job prospects in Tucson, reading through some of these posts, it seems that there is some difficulty find a job. I currently have 1 year experience in surgical nursing (gensurg/thoracic) and I'm a Canadian citizen so I would be qualified for a TN visa.

Can anybody share their job search process for someone who has 1 year of experience ?

Any Canadians out there in the same boat as me ?

There are jobs. I was hired a month out of school, but had to turn it down because the state board took too long to get my license. I was hired for the same job in October. While waiting for the job to open back up I did some interviews and got several offers.

That said, my resume is solid, I have a lot of good work history and tailored everything to show strong skills which would translate to nursing skills (teamwork, customer satisfaction, loyalty, string work ethic, quick advancement, pt assessment, etc.).

I also am a really strong interviewer. I get along very well with people from all walks of life and have an innate ability to get people to open up to me

My goal in an interview is always to get the interviewer off topic about something they are passionate about and be able to identify with that, or show that I value that as well. Works every time for me.
