Canadian RN looking to travel in USA

Hi All,

I am looking to start my first travel assignment this summer. I am wondering if there are any fellow RNs on this board from Canada. I have several questions about traveling out of country.

1. Is there a limit on how much time each year we are allowed to be out of the country? I have heard before one year minus a day, but I do not know if this is true if you are working in the US. My CL partner will be traveling with me, so I need to know how long he can be in the USA without any special permission/visa.

2. Many of the companies offer 401K plans. How does this fit in with the Canadian pension plan?

3. I have noticed the pay is lower in the US (as is the cost of living). Have you found it difficult to accept the decrease in pay or is it equable with the lower cost of living. Also, which cities/states have the best pay/cost of living ratio?

I know I have a lot of questions and probably a lot more that are not coming to mind right now. Any comments on the above would be appreciated.
