Published

Hi,

Im looking to move when i graduate with my BSCN from Canada but heres the problem...i don't drive!

so i need a city that has a subway or at least you can get around without a car...

Can you live in Sydney or even other parts of Australia without a car easily (to get to work, shop, buy groceries, etc)

Thanks!

Yes of course. I live in Sydney and we have a fairly convenient bus/train system.

I live in Brisbane in Queensland and depending on where you live it can be reasonably easy to get around without a car. Hospitals such as the Mater, Princess Alexandra (PA) and Royal Brisbane Hospital (to name a few) are all easily accessible by public transport, I'm not a nurse or nursing student just yet, so I don't know how timetables would work with some shifts. The further out from the CBD you travel the harder it is to get around, but if you are near one of the major train lines it's not too bad, however some of the smaller local bus routes have limited runs and times.

If you were to live in Brisbane I would recommend trying to find a place in the inner suburbs or CBD, although it can be expensive, however there are some suburbs that you could live in that are in walking distance to the hospitals I mentioned above. I lived on the inner southside of Brisbane until recently - about a 10 min train ride from the CBD and could walk to both the PA and Mater.
