I just started HH, I'm and RN and am sole provider for my family. Does anyone out there use HH as a means to provide the majority of their families income? I am told I get $60 SOC $30 visit. My productivity base is on 28-30 points a week. I've only been doing it a little over 1 week and really love, have been on my own the last two days. can i count on getting 25-30 points a week?

Sure HH nursing can be full time. I am full time and make much more than any hospital job I had, plus there's NO nights or weekends in HH. Being able to support an entire family though would depend on your budget and spending habits.

As far as filling your productivity, you need to speak with your manager. Being new to HH, it may take awhile (couple of months) to build up to handling 25-30 visits a week. Make sure you are designated as full time and that you will get priority for patients.

Our productivity is 30 visits a week and the full time nurses are dealt out patients first, then it goes to part time and per diem nurses.

There are ways to make extra money in HH, such as taking call or covering extra patients. Just keep in mind its easy to burn out when you are working too much.

There are ups and downs in homecare, you may very well get 30 pts a week but during the summer months, the census could fall and you could drop down to less. thats a risk you take but if your new, you can usually ask other nurses to let you see some of their patients when your schedule is slow. I have to disagree though with the previous post about no weekends or nights, Most hh nurses have to take call, which means you will be working on weekends, holidays, nights. Not much but you could. If you are needing extra money, i'm sure a fellow nurse would love to allow you to take their call sometimes. No matter which way you look at it, you'll still make more money than working in the hospital and you have your freedom during the day and loads of flexability. good luck
