Hi,
I am going to be camp nurse next week at the church camp we are going to. I am an OB nurse by profession, so am a little rusty on my first aid interventions. I can use common sense, but wondered if anyone knew of a quick online first-aid guide I could access. I live in a rural area where there is not a book available.
Thanks!

Common sense is about all you can really use as a camp nurse. I've done it a few times at various week-long camps, and it was great!
Just remember, you can't diagnose, prescribe, or do anything invasive. Just treat whatever comes your way by "making available" band-aids, tyl, benadryl, hot or cold packs, etc.
Also, make sure you have a list of who's allergic to what, what meds the kids are on, and when they're to be given, along with written permission from their parents for you to administer them.
Anything you can't treat, needs to go to the hospital or MD.
Have a great time, I think you'll love the experience. I sure did!

when I get my RN (in 2 years), thats what I want to do in the summers. I think it would be so much fun! I've been going to our church camp since I was a little girl and it would be awesome to go back as the camp nurse!! :-) Have fun!!
Yeah, I know I'll just be a band-aid queen (LOL) but I guess I get a little uneasy out of my element. I don't think there will be a need for an OB nurse there - (we hope) LOL. I figure it will be scraped knees, headaches, mosquito bites, and stomach aches. I have 3 boys of my own, so guess I'm pretty much already good at those things. I love church camp - mosquitos and all!
Yeah, I think it will be neat! Last year I know there was an ankle sprain, but not much else. It's just a neat feeling. It was neat just going back as a counselor - now I get to be both! I also hope to go on a medical based mission trip to Mexico. I want to learn more spanish first - any ideas?? Here in our rural area - we see many spanish only speaking patients, and on the nightshift, we do not have an interpreter available. One of our doc's is spanish speaking, hence the reason we get so many. Maybe someday!........
