Calling all SPC Pre-Nursing Students!

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone!

Forgive my enthusiasm. I visited the counselor today and got great news about most of my CA prereqs transferring in. I'm beyond ecstatic at this second chance I've been given. I initially applied for BSN programs in 2012, but was denied everywhere except for Bakersfield. My GPA wasn't competitive enough for the schools I did want (3.32) and I wasn't willing to move so far. Funnily, work (job, not career) sent me to Florida, so I've deciding to give it another try!

I have all but two prereqs completed (Ethics and English Composition [my original English class is old and won't transfer in]). As I'm not yet a Pinellas County resident, my goal is to kill time and retake A&P I and II as a I got a B and C in those respectively. Hopefully I can apply a year from now as a resident and be accepted for Fall 2017. It feels far in the future, but time does fly.

Anyone else prepping for SPC's AS Nursing program? Hopefully, others chime in as I'd love to hear from pre-nursing students and even current/former SPC students who have advice to offer!

My daughter will be attending SPC this fall to start her prerequisite classes. I hear they get at least 350-400 per semester for the ASN program and only except about 80. She will definitely have to get good grades on these classes.

On their website, it says they get 450-550 applicants with 92 being accepted typically. Either way, that's pretty steep. The more A's the better, especially with all classes complete. Some people don't get in with 4.0s because they have a class or two remaining.

I am going into my second semester of nursing school at SPC this fall. I would say your best bet would be to speak with a counselor at the health campus, seeing as they know more about what you need to do to get in. Explain your plan to take the 2 classes etc. SPC does have a ton of applicants and only so few spots. On top of that I believe about 36 of those spots are held for students who work at (as a tech) and a contract with a baycare hospital. That is what I am doing. That is a viable option too if you're willing to work as a tech for 6 months prior to starting!

Best of luck to you!

I just put my application in w a 3.76 im here with you crossing fingers!!!!!!

Apparently i didnt realize that this was an old post!
