California Test-taker Failed 3rd Time - OPTIONS PLEASE!!!

Published

I took the NCLEX-RN exam a month ago and was so devastated to get my negative result. I've read some article onlne that if you fail thrice, the California Board of Registered Nursing, will require you to take a short course, or something to that effect, before they could let you take the exam again.

Though I failed 3x's, I'm not about to quit - but, I don't have the option to go to school since I need to work to feed my family. My question is, could I stay in California and take the NCLEX-Exam in another state like say, Nevada? Or do I have to be a resident in that state before I could take the test there? And, do I get another 3 chances there?

I'm so helpless and confused I don't know what to do. Is there anyone out there willing to help me look for options, please? Thank you so very much in advance! God bless.

Keep your head up! It's still not over.

The exam is the same in all states and countries. It is the same pool of questions and the questions are only given to you based on your previous answer.

I only sat mine last week for the first time and thanks to not having a SSN/it being California I have to wait another 3 weeks for the results so really, I might not be the best person to be giving advice as I probably failed 2.

But..everyone on this forum says to use Suzannes plan with Saunders 3rd Ed. The book is not that expensive but the plan requires time which is probably a good idea for you, just to take the pressure off.

If the board want you to do anything different this time they will tell you. Just keep thinking positive, look at you weaknesses on the report they send you and try not to over-study. And be patient, they might want you to take more time before re-sitting this time which is good because you can study without as much pressure so you can take more things in.

Good luck and you will get more ideas just by looking at threads on this site.

i would check the sticky at top of thread new revised first tip of suzanne's plan. i am using it i will be taking it a 3x in oct. keep your head and have faith , believe and you will succeed. we never know why god puts us in theses situations but, know he knows what should happen in our future that we will never know because we did everything would be easy.

hey sweetie, sorry that u didnt pass nclex i live in california too, los angeles area, took nclex-rn 5 times, and i am a us grad, i am so embarassed its unbelievable, last exam i took was in May of this year, i am trying to study but not consistent about it and i get distracted very easily, i am so tired that on the scale 0-10 its like a 100, all my classmates already working, advanced in their career and such and me i am just a patient care assistant/phlebotomist..its so degrading

anyways just wanted to recommend never to give up, continue to study,Kaplan has similar style q like nclex, its a bit costly, try Suzanne plan, from what i ve been reading on the forum it has helped many, she uses Saunders book, nclex exam i think testing a bit of what u know and more of how to answer nclex style q, dont do just the content, practice q and eliminate wrong ones and then choose best one out of 2 thats left..good luck to you dont feel discouraged!!!!

god bless!!!
