Single mom in San Diego? Can I make it?

U.S.A. California

Hello everyone,

I am about to go through a divorce and I am thinking about relocating to Southern Cali... San Diego specifically. I will have custody of my young daughter. I know it is very expensive in SoCal, but I want to be near my family. I have not lived in SoCal for over 12 years and I just don't know if I will be able to make it as an RN financially. I have been working in an area where RN pay is very LOW and I know I would not be able to make it here. My husband makes very good money, so I have never had to bring in an income.. anything I brought in was extra... Any information would be great... I have my BSN if that helps..

I think the pay is higher there. I think you could do it. Good luck to you.

My daughter lives on the marine base there. Her husband just got back from Iraq. She is a nanny for a navy family. If you need someone to hang out with PM me I will give her your number. She is a great person and has a little girl as well. Take care, Patti

it is REALLY expensive here, but you could probably make it... the very cheapest rent for a 2 bedroom apt far out in east county runs about $900-$950/month & that's not in a great neighborhood, so you'll probably be looking at about $1200-$1600/month in rent to get into a 2 br in a good neighborhood. pay in san diego isn't as high as LA or SF, but i think the cost of living is sliiiiightly lower (i could be wrong). but in my opinion, you could definitely make it in san diego on an RN salary & there are plenty of really great hospitals here.

good luck!!
