California Nurse Practitioners Practice Protocol?

Specialties NP

I'm in my 1st NP position and from what I learned in school, all you needed to practice was a Standardized Procedure which is about 2-3 pages in length.

Now my Admins are requesting me to make my Practice Protocol and Drug Formulary for them. Typing out what I can do in my practice is like re-typing a 1,000 page textbook and drug guide!!!

I hope this isn't the case. Please help, hopefully with some evidence to help me avoid all the unnecessary typing.

It sounds like what they are asking for is something similar to what we have in NC called a collaborative practice agreement. In NC it is the guidelines developed between the NP and the collaborating physician governing practice. If you would like to see some of what I put in mine PM me. :) It really isn't that much, nowhere near the work you are imagining.
