Hi everyone, I am a new resident here in Cali and I'm looking for a job....please help me. I am a 2010 grad from Phil. As I read your treads regarding application to nclex. I lose some hope.. I want to have a job first so that I can earn some for pursuing my nursing career... Any suggestion please. Thanks

I'm going to assume that you've already squared away any immigration issues and are able to legally work in the U.S. If you haven't done that already, you should take care of that first.

I'm also not sure if you are applying to be a RN or a LVN.

The only way you can work in CA is if CA licenses you as a nurse. To do that, you need to apply for licensure.

RN: http://www.rn.ca.gov/applicants/index.shtml, http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/applicants/exam-app.pdf (note for foreign applicants: http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/applicants/end_intlgrads.pdf)

LVN: http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/licensing/

I work with lots of foreign grads so it's very possible to get licensed. But a lot of it depends on the nursing school you went to, because what trips a lot of foreign grads up is the educational requirements. CA has tough guidelines, and the fact that another country (or even another state) licensed you doesn't mean that CA will automatically hand you a license.

When you apply, you will need to provide copies of all of your nursing school transcripts; if they are not in English you will have to provide English translations. If your education is not sufficient, CA will let you know what classes you are missing and which you'll need to complete before licensure. However, they won't necessarily tell you where you can get those missing classes. You may also need to provide proof of proficiency in English, such as passing an English comprehension exam or taking the TOEFL.

Best of luck.

I'm planning to apply for LVN exam... But I don't know how to start...
