Hey all...I have a State prison/ Dept. of mental health job question..

I have been checking out some options in the SoCal corrections field or DMH as an LVN. Even if they are doing furloughs it's still a job and I already have experience in that field so I'm going to try for it..

BUT-

Can anyone tell me more about the MTA/LVN vs LVN(safety) positions?

I read a little bit of older information about the MTA/LVN position and that is the category I wish to apply for...

but only saw positions on the website that were titled as LVN(safety) I did not see MTA/LVN..

is that even an option anymore? or maybe just not available now..?

I took my exam already for the LVN(safety) and got a 95%, but can't seem to figure out how to find where/what my rank is though..it's a confusing site!

Any help, suggestions or tips would be sweet..

thanks~

Well I figured out how to see my rank...it actually wasn't hard, I just had to be more awake. Anyway, so I am at 3 and so are 2 thousand others...not much chance of getting hired I imagine. Oh well!

I don't understand why they hire people anyway when they are making so many cutbacks and making people take furloughs. They should just give the people that are already employed their hours back! I suppose that would be too easy though.

So no one knows the diff between an MTA/LVN and the LVN(safety)?

I read that furloughs ended for medical back in October or November or something, and that they were discontinuing MTA, but I see a LOT of LPN safety positions. I do not know the difference, as I've been researching RN positions and information. Good luck, though! I bet you'll still get a letter of interest. I am ranked 5 along with 3,000 other RNs right now. Have you checked the Corrections forum? Lots of good information there.

StudyStudy, Thank you for your response, i really appreciate it :)

No, I've not read the corrections forum just yet, I'll have to do that. Maybe if the MTA thing has been discontinued then they probably replaced it with the (safety) classification...maybe.

And -I did not know that they moved away from doing furloughs for the medical..Wow! Good to know. (I think I need to read more!)

Thanks again. ..and good luck to you!
