Burn Unit Experience for CRNA program

Published

I am a nursing student and am considering working toward being a CRNA, but I am also very interested in working in a Burn Unit. This is actually where I would like to work once I graduate.

Here is my question. Is a burn unit a good unit to work in before applying to a CRNA program? Do you get the full training and experience there as you would in any other ICU?

Working in a burn unit is an excellent way to prepare. In my opinion, it is an area where you have to fully understand fluid and resuscitation, airway implications, effects of blood loss, ABGs, etc.

On the same note, it can be a very burdensome and emotional place to work. It will require a degree of mental toughness on your part.

Thank you for your response. I really have an interest in working on a burn unit and it will be a plus if it prepares me for CRNA school.
