Hello,
I have just started OB. We are to write a teaching care plan that included the entire family. This is a made up family.
My mom and dad are both 19 years old and this is the first baby. My mommy had a c- section, my baby was circumcised. My mommy wants to feed breast milk, but from a bottle. My daddy is a smoker. My mommy rated her pain on scale 6/10. We are to prioritize 4 nursing diagnosis.
My area's of concern are: ( not prioritized)
Dad works nights and is afraid to leave mom and baby home alone.
Dad is a smoker
Mom is having pain levels of 6 after a c-section
mom does not know how to care for circumcision
mom does not know how to pump her breast milk to bottle feed.
I am thinking that my number one dx should be mothers pain. This, because in order to be comfortable feeding baby, and learning how to pump, she should be as pain free as possible. Also, I feel as though this will give a better bonding experience between the family.
#2. (this one confuses me)... I can't find the words for a DX for inexperienced bottle feeders. I am thinking in the line of knowledge deficit but am unsure how to word it. This number two, because obviously baby has to eat, and mothers lack of knowledge can put baby at a nutritional risk.
#3 Mom also needs to know how to prevent infection in the newborn r/t baby's circumcision.
#4, I can't decide between addressing dads smoking, ( he may not smoke around baby) or his fears his anxiety r/t situational crisis.
Can anybody give me some advice please.... and thank you.

2. Knowledge deficit, feeding infant r/t inexperience caring for newborn aeb.....
Absolutely smoking over anxiety. Smoking affects the physical health of the entire family.
I think the rest of your care plan looks fine.
Thank you very much.
I came up with this one, but it is sooooooooo long. I think I will use yours, if it is ok.
Ineffective health maintenance r/t knowledge deficit regarding breast milk expression and storage AEB mothers statement " I don't know how to use a breast pump".
I am just not good at care plans...
