U.S.A. Massachusetts

Applied and accepted for direct admission to the BSN programs at both Regis College and Curry College. I'm still waiting to hear from Endicott College. I would appreciate hearing opinions from those in the nursing prgrams BSN or other at any of these schools. I would really like to know about faculty, clinical placements, size of classes, or what ever you think is relevant. Thanks in advance for your help!

umbrellaman 1,

i am a junior in the nursing program here at curry college, and i absolutely love it here. i just finished my third semester of clinicals, and so far i've enjoyed all my experiences. in curry's nursing program, we start the clinical rotations our sophomore year in the first semester, which was one of the reasons i personally picked this program. i feel like you get more experience that way. we go to most of the major hospitals in boston such as beth israel, mgh, brigham and women's, children's hospital, and tufts. also, we go to some smaller local hospitals and rehabilitation centers. as for the faculty, i don't think i could have gotten better professors. we have small class sizes here, so you actually get to maintain a relationship with your professor. they actually know who's who in their classes, and when they are in their offices, they always have the door open for questions. whenever i've needed help with understanding something or just wanting to review my test, i've never had a problem. there's also a nursing resource lab that's open during the week where you could go to do things like practice a blood pressure or giving injections, ( don't worry, we practice on sim mannequins!!) plus, they offer help and practice for nclex on the computers. i personally believe i made the right choice by picking curry over the other programs i applied to. the school has a great atmosphere and the faculty make the classes enjoyable. if you haven't had a chance to visit the campus yet, you should definitely try to before making your decision. hope that helps answer your questions!

Christina - Thanks for the reply. Sounds like Curry has a good program. I definitely like the fact that the nursing curriculum starts in the second year and that faculty are helpful and know students.

A couple more questions. When you say the classes are small, about how many in each and how many in each clinical on average? Also, have there been many students who leave the school because they are not able to make it in the program? Have heard much about the number of students that find jobs right after graduation or even those who have summer placements?

Again, thanks for your response.

Specializes in ICU.

Are you looking for info about the traditional BSN or accelerated 2nd BSN programs? I'm in the ACCEL program at Curry, and I agree with everything Christina has said about the faculty, classes and clinicals there. Because Curry's BSN program has been around for so long, they have EXCELLENT clinical placements at the Boston teaching hospitals. The opportunities for extra help (nursing lab, NCLEX prep sessions, a group tutor for those struggling) are numerous and FREE.

Also, take a look at the NCLEX pass rates for the different schools on the EOHHS web site. Curry had one of the highest for BSN programs, with a 96% pass rate in 2008 (the Regis BS pass rate was a much lower 66%).

Good luck with your choice!
