Hello all,

I am looking to order books for next semester? Are there any websites that has discounted textbooks? Thanks in advance for your responses.

I used the ISBN numbers and searched. Sometimes I found new books for just a couple of dollars more than used. You will find used books in all sorts of conditions, when I did get a used book, I was a little picky and paid a little more but the books had no notes or highlights. Another suggestion is to consider a previous version, but that depends on the book and course. What I can honestly say is I did not get any books from school as you can find varying prices all over. I have to admit that the majority came through my Amazon account (student) which allowed me to get my books quickly and not have to pay so much for shipping.

Okay. Thanks for the information.

i get all of my texts from amazon. my school posts the ISBN on our school website and i go on a couple of months prior to each semester and purchase the best used ones i can find. i have gotten HUGE deals this way. one book for next semester i got virtually BRAND new (the seller took it out of the plastic wrap and only used ONE chapter!) and saved 70% of the cost of my school bookstore! WHOOP!!

I second Amazon. I've always just purchased from the school bookstore until recently. After I discovered that I could purchase my textbooks brand new, still in the wrapping, for 50% off I will never do the bookstore again.

I usually check for kindle versions of my books, most come that way, a few don't. Then if I actually need them (usually about 50% of required books are actually necessary), I can buy them in real time. The others, I typically find the best deal at amazon, mostly new but some used depending on the class. Theory books for example, always used or kindle. Patho new. I don't rent, too often books are required in multiple terms in my program.

Amazon student prime account.

I got my pharm book from Amazon for a mere 3.00 excellent condition. I paid 3.99 for the shipping. Also Halfpricebooks.com is a really good source. I got my med surg book for 137.00 the college was charging over 300.00 for the same book.

Bigwords.com does a nice comparison of online bookstores. I've used it for many years.

I got a great deal directly from the publisher (30% off & free shipping) for a book that's all of 2 weeks old because it wasn't available in time through Amazon or the school bookstore for the start of the semester. Definitely keeping an eye on those sites from now on.

I never thought about that, but I am an instructor right now and there are a lot of times when I get on the publishers website to use my instructor resources and they are having a sale. Usually what I see is 25% - 30%, but this only happens occasionally. I will have to remember to check that avenue as well.
