Travel nurse here. Ran into a situation that back fired on me recently that ended up getting reported to the BON for violating hospital policy. 10 years in the biz and never had this happen before, so im out of my depth. To top it off, my agency will not recontract me until the investigation is clear. And being I haven't even gotten a letter yet, Im going to assume that I have a long wait head of me. So, scrambling for a job and not sure quite what to do there. Do I apply elswhere and just inform them I have a pending investigation? Even if I check my license right now, my history is clear. So im sure its just a matter of time before it pops up there, but the board doesn't even meet again for another month. So I dunno.
My main question is, what can I expect? the nuts and bolts of the scenario is, myself and another nurse are taking shift report. We get to a patient myself and the other nurse are very familar with. We recieve the report that indicates a fluid overload in the patient, and we are told Pt is on fluids. Myself and the nurse look at each other quizically. The reporting nurse says the fluids are for one bag, then Dc'd. We continue report. several hours later, the other nurse says, hey those fluids are done, but the order didn't dc. Pt's still wet and overloaded. It was at this point the nurse told me the fluids were done 5 hours ago, and he just didn't rehang the fluids. We decided to dc the order with the info given to us by the outgoing shift, and speak to the doc on rounding in a 2 hours. Now, of course in hindsite. Call the doc, question the order, clarify was the correct course. We see scenarios like this probably 3-4 times a week at this facility, no exageration, where this occurs. Just this time, mine got reported.
