Best way to get into consortium

Published

Hello,

Background: Right now, I work in an ambulatory surgery center as a GI and OR/CS tech. My goal was to get some OR experience with people that would work with my schedule while I'm in school. I have three quarters left and I decided the OR is where I want to be upon graduation. The hospital that my clinic is affiliated with (Virginia Mason) has a consortium and I really would like to work for them.

Question: What is the best way to get into consortiums as a new grad? Am I on the right track or should I try to get into the inpatient OR this summer as a tech? I feel like it might be more of a burden than its worth to do all of that transferring until then. However, it might make it easier to be seen in the flurry of applications. Also, should I apply for multiple consortiums anyway? Do you think I have a chance baseded on my experience?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and getting back to me! I need some input on how some new grads got hired in the OR right out of school (because I do not enjoy other fields and I've worked so hard right?)!

Thanks,

I am not really familiar with consortium because our hospital is not a part of that but I know VM, Swedish and Harborview does. I guess it would be wise to apply to multiple consortiums. Theere's a shortage of nurses in Seattle so I don't think it's too difficult to find a job. We have been hiring new grads in the OR nurses for the past 4 years.
