Best time to look for L&D openings for the experiencesd nurse

Hi everyone,

I have been a med surg/tele nurse for 2 years now. Before I started my nursing career med surg was never a favorite of mine, my first love was and has always been L&D. I started out in med surg because I witnessed something as a nursing student on a L&D unit that was a concern and also embarrassing. A physician placed an order for an NG tube to be placed into a patient who was approx 5-6 months pregnant. None of the nurses were willing to attempt to place it because they didn't know how. After that moment I told myself, I don't want to be that kind of nurse. Now that I have gained experience in med surg I am ready to transition into L&D but the search has been difficult. When is a good time to look for training positions for the experienced nurse ready to transition into a labor and delivery nursing? I have a license in the state of California and Florida............
