;) I just moved to Las Vegas. Can any of recommend a great place to work in Sin City???:balloons:

I don't know too much about most of the competetion, being relatively new here myself (11/05), but I work at St Rose. I have a lower patient load there than I was told I would at the other facility I interviewed at.

Hi tkbt, how long have you been at St. Rose? I m still at New Jersy now and I am planning to apply and work there in St. Rose. Do you have added info that one should know about your hospital? Thanks

Started here 12/05. I really like the benefits. They paid my relocation, I have good health, dental, and vision insurance. I'm also starting to look for a house, and they even have a program to give a small (forgiveable) loan toward the costs. I think I remember reading on this very site that St Rose had the best reputation in the area for the way it treats its new grads, so it was my first choice.

I have six patients most nights, the heaviest load so far has been seven. At UMC when I interviewed, I was told it would be eight or more. Now, as a new grad, I'm sure my eyes were like saucers upon hearing that!

There are two St Rose hospitals here right now, with a third to open later this fall or in the winter. I'm at Siena. Good luck with your application!

USAF...seriously, I came on active duty after my experiences downtown :D The shortage here is insane and I came from a community w/MUCH better hospitals/resources (I was spoiled I guess). Just remember that Vegas wasn't built for hospitals/schools....majority of the $$$ is still in the service/entertainment portion and medical is catching up....

Specializes in critical care.

been to other hospitals & so far st rose for me is the best in the valley.yes they pay for your relocation & give you a two week salary like a bonus & also you can get about $75 of your rent from selected apartments.

Specializes in mostly MICU and some L&D and PACU.

As a registered nurse in Las Vegas for the majority of my 24 yrs, I reccommend ST. Roses three facilities first, then Sunrises facilities second, UMC as a third choice. And what they all have in commen is that they are union! Not all of Sunrise facilities are union though so be sure when you apply. The reason I reccommend union facilities is that the contracts address staffing ratios(not sure about UMC) in one way or another and have retirement/pensions/401K's. Not to mention a slew of articles that protect your workplace and enviroment. There is also no secrets in salaries, just call and ask or call the local SEIU. But if applying at other facilities make sure you ask about their floating policies, on-call, charge and precepting pay. I'm sure they will be no where near the union facilities. I also reccommend doing it soon because the most desirable and day shift positions seem to be filling fast. I am already finding that out.
