Best path from Surg Tech to RN is ???

Published

So I thought that being a Surg. Tech. is what I wanted out of life, now I know it's nursing that I really wanted. How do I get from point A to point B asap? Any suggestions about nursing programs that may be easier to get into up here in Northern California/East Bay area? Is the ADN pgm. the place to start? Thanks!

Its funny that you mention that. My younger sister wanted to go for surgical tech now she has decided she wants to become a nurse as well. Also, I knew someone who was a surgical tech in my class who decided to branch into becoming a RN. It seems to be the big thing now.

Anyways, I read that California has more ADN programs than BSN programs. If you are looking for a basic entry I would tell you to go into a ADN program. If you are looking forward to going into higher education in nursing MSN and further ed you may want to go into a BSN program. You can always get a BSN though through having a ADN.

Call around local community colleges in your area. Also they have a difference of a 2yr degree (ADN)compared to a diploma RN. So make sure its at a community college posibbly through the NLNAC for accreditations so you can transfer credits ect for other school options or further ed(RN-BSN).

As far as the pre-reqs you should do okay since you have Surg Tech experience in A&P( anatomy and physiology). Along with other courses, clinicals, ect.

Once you have decided upon your school depending on age you will have to take a compass test, this will show if you need remedials to help you lately for development in your studies. Don't get discouraged I have taken some of them along with many others of us,lol. Its actually funny I do better in the actually college courses than the remedials. The algebra and stuff of that nature will help you later ( Nursing enterance exams) so they are kind of helpful.

I was trying to find you a site with nursing schools on it in the bay area. My notebook is actually really slow for some reason. So I was unable to really look into it but try clicking here...... http://www.bayareanrc.org and click on the blue wording where it says schools of nursing. The site gives a list of the schools over 20 of them in the bay area in a list. It does not give phone numbers but it shall help you.

Best of luck to you!

sorry for spelling I was a bit sleepy when typing this, lol.
