best experience for first job?

Published

Hi everyone i just graduated from an LVN program here in California. I am going to apply to the RN program asap but wanted to work as an LVN/LPN somewhere i would get the best experience...the hospitals arent hiring lvns right now but i was wondering if anyone would like to suggest a place where i can expand my knowledge and become a great nurse?

Specializes in LPN.

Welcome to the forum. :) It's hard for anyone else to answer where you would get the "best" experience. This can vary for everyone depending on your strengths and weaknesses, your interests, and job availability for new grads in your area.

In my area, most LPN's work in long term care. Nursing homes are a difficult environment, but a common place for people to start since they are often short staffed and always hiring. You really learn time management and organizational skills there. I prefer group homes because their staff-patient ratios are much better and you use a greater variety of nursing skills in that environment. No matter where you work, you will expand your knowledge and develop skills as a nurse.

thank you for the reply... i appreciate any help i can get ...
