I am starting Bellevue Community College's nursing program this fall (2006) and I'm telling you, there are people off all ages in the program. I am 25 and there are people younger than me, and then there are some people that look like they are around your age. Don't let the apprehension stop you if it's really what you think you want to do!
Yes it is very difficult to get in, but I didn't have perfect grades, I just worked my butt off! I did get my CNA licese there, which I do think helped me when I applied, but I've never actually worked as a CNA--I just hold the license.
Just make sure you have all 44 credits--with as good of grades as possible in those classes, and yeah I would get your CNA if you can. I think it gives you an edge over those people who don't have one and it's a really easy class that's only a quarter long. Also, go to the informational sessions which are held monthly, they are really helpful in telling you EXACTLY what you need to do to get in. I was slightly anal about attending those (I was always worried something would change, or I would misunderstand what I was supposed to be doing), but it paid off...
I also put a cover letter in with my application. I have no idea whether it helped or not, and it isn't required, but I figured it couldn't have hurt!

Hello! I'm cruising the website and came across your question. I'm an FNP student with a year to go (43yrs old, if that matters at all)...but I couldn't resist offering my 2 cents.
If this is what you want to do, of course you need to go for it!! Here is a point to consider as well. Since the average age of the population out there is older rather than younger, you automatically have an advantage when building rapport with patients. If I were 40, 50, 60 >, I want you treating me. I can relate to you and the life skills and wisdom you bring, as opposed to a 23 yr old. It is comforting to have someone near your own age attending to your care. And "comfort" is a HUGE part of the nursing paradigm.
I hope you will follow this if it is your dream to do so.
i don't know how many failed this quarter but it's very depressing i wished i had failed the first quarter instead coz i've gone so far to the end of completing first year and failed i can't get this out of my mind ....it's killing me...i don't know what to do tho.. they told me i can retake the class but next year which is so far...i'm going to apply for LPN program and see if i can get in i don't know if anyone here ever been in situation like this coz i don' t know if other colleges in seattle area would take students from other college's nursing program those who 've failed a class. do you know anything bout this? and may i know who this is? did u try applying to other colleges??
As far as I know you can transfer to other school if you're still in the program. I reapplied in BCC again for this year but I'm not sure if I will get accepted again. I also applied to SOuthseattle for LPN program. I know how it feels...it hurts...it's been 5 months and I still get depressed and cry about it once in a while...but life goes on...Keep yourself busy...it helps. :wink2:
same here i kno how it feels failing with only less than 2% percent....i dont kno how they just throw us out so easily...do u work as cna ?? and did u get into lpn program or not?? let me kno okk...do u want to talk on hotmail someday email me the time...i think i've added u in my msn list...ok..tc
