Being an alternate for any of the Lonestar Colleges..

Published

I'm on the alternate list for cy-Fair..just wondering if anyone has any kind of information about how good my chances are of getting in...anyone currently in the program and have numbers of how many alternates got in? Can you be an alternate at more than one school? How long before I should hear something from someone? Will they call or e-mail me? Maybe send a letter lol?

Thanks! I really hope to get in! Kingwood was my 2nd choice, and I have not heard anything from them...I heard the cutoff was 11.4 so maybe I could of made the alternate list for them as well?

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

The people that were accepted have to turn in their intent to enroll form by a specific date, and pass a background check. If they don't return the form or don't pass the background check that is when they will start adding the alternates.

Perhaps someone who has been accepted will post the date that the form needs to be returned by, then you will know when to expect spots to open up.

Hey Just Curious What Your Score Was I Had A 11.1 And Was Denied Kingwood Thier Cut Off Was 11.4 So May Be You Have A Chance.

Don't know if this info helps, but here goes:

I got accepted to Cy-Fair & the letter of intent return date is 11/24. I am an alternate at Kingwood also. My points were 11.4448 (I was thinking it was 11.4888 for the longest time, but it wasn't!) The letter of intent to be an alternate must be turned in by 11/14. Kingwood has orientations on 11/21 and 12/2. Cy-Fair has orientation on 12/4.

Background checks and Hep B immunizations must be finished by 12/1 for both programs.

I really figured I would get into Kingwood's program and don't know a whole lot about Cy-Fair's. Do you know much about it?:typing

Specializes in 0 as RN, 3 in ICU and Tele as Tech.

One thing I wanted to tell both of you guys (gals :lol2: ) is to make sure that you attend an orientation session for both because they are mandatory from what I understand.

Kim- can you call Kingwood to see where you are on the list? Maybe that can help you make your decision easier. Also, Cy-fair has it where you have to take their Pharm or pass their test.

Okay, so I'm waiting on a call from the director of Kingwood's program to see what position I am in on the alternate list. There are 13 alternates for Kingwood. I went ahead and sent my acceptance to Cy-Fair as well. I am glad to be going somewhere in January, but I'll feel much better when I know exactly where! (and to be honest...Cy-Fair seems a little frightening!) I know I can be successful at either campus, I'd just like to know which one I'll be at!

But there was no date to have the letter of intent to be an alternate for cyfair, just to email the lady but i geuss that is the intent if you email her lol...

and no i dont know a whole lot about cyfairs program, other than its the hardest one in the district, about half of their students drop out of the program before graduation...when the other schools have really high success rates lol..but im sure that doesnt make you feel any better.. ifeel like ive been waiting so long to get into nursing school thast i will make whatever school i get into, work! lol but thanks for your info@

well I would love to attend an orientation, but they have not sent me, or told me when it is, or where for that matter...I'm just going to call in the morning lol

Well, don't think that you haven't gotten the information because you're an alternate. The only info. I got was the date of the orientation, 12/4. I don't know time or place either. I feel the same way that you do. I have been waiting for so long, I'm fine with going to CyFair. In fact, knowing that it is the toughest makes me want to go there in a weird, self-torture kinda way! When I get background check information or anything more on orientation Erica, I'll let you know.:D

Thanks! I called them about 50 times today and not one answer lol, and I have not received an e-mail from them either...I'm getting really ****** off lol..

Okay, got the info. from CyFair today. I made an appointment with F.A.S.T. to get fingerprinted for a TX criminal history record check. It's $44.20 (check or money order) or $45.69 if paying by credit card. I got an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. They say it takes a week for the check to get done. Also, they included orientation information. It is from 8:30 - 3:00 on 12/4 in the College Denter, CENT 152. There was also a release form included that was an okay to share information with the clinical agencies that they are affiliated with and the Board of Nursing. That is the latest I've got ~ hope it helps.:paw:
