Hi,

Is anyone out there also taking BCIT's distance RN-BSN degree completion program? I just started with the PICU specialty track: NSPE 7100 and 7210 and would love to exchange information/insight.

Thanks,

Sue

Hi

I know this post is somewhat old- but I thought I would reply.

how is/did the program go for you?

Would you suggest it? Was it expensive? I am looking into the RN to BSN online neonatal specialty course. I'm really interested but apprehensive too. It seems expensive but looking around, I think it's average.

How long did it take you to finish?

Thanks in advance!!

HI there,

The program went very well. It's a little heavy on the "family theory" content and a little light on the clinical hours. However, I loved the actual PICU theory, pathophysiology, case studies. My preceptor commended me and said my PICU theory knowledge was much greater than most of their new staff who complete the in house program. Yes, I would recommend it. Are you Canadian? It may cost more if you're not. The 2 clinical courses are about $950 each and the rest of the theory courses are about $750 each. I think there were about 8 or 9 courses in total. They gave me three credits just for having my PALS and ENPC, so I was able to skip an elective. I did it over a year and a half, but I had a baby and toddler at the time. I did manage to take 3 courses some semesters, but that was heavy and I required a babysitter, and was not working. BCIT is not an easy school. The NICU program head is really nice, as are all the instructors. I would definitely recommend it!! Enjoy!! Oh, by the way, you'll get a total of 200 hours of clinical, unless they change something. I feel that that is not really enough unless you are in a high volume PICU, then I would think it's enough. I'm an ER nurse, and never took a job in the PICU, but it sure is great to have that knowledge, plus I am using the credits towards my BSCN and have 4 courses to go!!
